Angels Foster Family Network

BRENDON MCLARTY MEMORIAL FOUNDATION

The Brendon McLarty Memorial Foundation was established in July 2017 by Lori McLarty and Jennifer Blair to celebrate and honor the life of special young man, Brendon McLarty. Brendon had a heart of gold and could light up any room with his big smile. Brendon died on May 20, 2012 at the age of 16 after suffering a fatal asthma attack. Our mission is to honor the life of Brendon McLarty by fighting asthma through education and awareness. Our vision is to educate and emphasize the importance of asthma awareness. There is no cure for asthma, but it can be managed with proper prevention and treatment. Patients, family members, and care givers can be taught to recognize the early signs and symptoms of an asthma attack. They can also be taught what to do during an asthma attack, and how to recognize and avoid environmental triggers. Many fatal asthma attacks can be prevented by early recognition and treatment.

For more volunteer opportunities check out our website or contact Jen Blair at (405) 314-1722.

CAMP FIRE HEART OF OKLAHOMA

We are a national inclusive youth development organization. We envision a world where all young people thrive and have equitable opportunities for self-discovery, community connection, and engagement with nature.

We offer world class leadership opportunities for juniors and seniors working with elementary students in our after school and outdoor school programs or as a summer day camp counselor at Camp DaKaNi.

GIRLS ON THE RUN

Girls on the Run of Central Oklahoma inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience based curriculum that creatively integrates running. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. We always need volunteer coaches. Volunteer coaching does require the most significant obligation. Coaching requires training in our offices and meeting with a team two times a week for ten weeks. We have program opportunities to coach in the spring and the fall. Our programs end with a celebratory 5k. We need volunteers to help us pull off this event. Volunteering for the 5k is easy and takes one Saturday morning. This year the event was held on May 7, 2022. We are also looking for students to start a teen board. We aren't sure what that looks like, but it would be modeled after the Cleats for Kids Teen Board or the Infant Crisis Center Teen Board. This opportunity would need highly motivated leaders in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades.

YOUNG LIFE

Young Life is a place where students can grow personally and spiritually alongside their peers, and are given adult leaders/mentors. Young Life is in every major city, state, and in over 100 countries. Most universities will recognize students being a part of Young Life in high school.

We have opportunities for high school students to be student leaders by helping run our Sunday night events. We also provide service hour/volunteer weekend opportunities throughout the school year. Our largest volunteer opportunity is every fall, where we take a group of students to serve as "work crew" at a Young Life Camp in Lampe, Missouri to serve families or middle school students. Students usually earn 15-20+ service hours from that weeekend.

Young Life is ecumenical, meaning students from any faith tradition or background are welcome.

There is no need to apply to Young Life, you just show up when you can!
